What is Invisalign®?

You may initially imagine metal brackets and wires when thinking about an orthodontic treatment. Invisalign instead uses multiple clear plastic aligners to adjust the teeth. This plastic is virtually undetectable once it has been placed in your mouth, so you won’t have to worry about anyone else staring at your orthodontic appliance. While you need to wear the trays for most of the day, you can take them out to eat or brush as you normally would. It typically takes about 12 to 18 months to complete an Invisalign treatment; on average, this is less time than you’d spend wearing braces.

Invisalign® TEEN Clear Braces

When you’re a teen with an image to think about, you’ll probably bulk at the idea of metal braces. As you might expect, Invisalign is a popular treatment option among younger patients. Invisalign aligners made for teens are a little different; they’ve been adjusted somewhat to help the process go smoothly. The tray has an indicator dot that will fade the longer the tray is worn. This gives parents a way to make sure their teen really is wearing the aligners as much as they should. Also, because younger patients tend to be more prone to breaking or losing aligners, up to six replacements are provided in order to keep the treatment on track.

iTero® Integrated Invisalign®

With an iTero scanner, Dr. Podray-Donovan can create a high-quality digital impression of your teeth. By quickly taking multiple pictures at various angles, iTero can make a 3D model of your teeth and bite, giving us a comprehensive view of your entire mouth. This makes it possible for us to carefully design Invisalign so that it fits as perfectly as possible. We can also create a preview of what your smile will look like at the end of Invisalign treatment; this can give you something to look forward to while waiting for your first set of aligners to alive.

If you need additional assistance or have other questions, we invite you to contact us and schedule a free orthodontic consultation today.

What should I do if I accidentally damage or lose an aligner?

Accidents happen, so if you damage or lose one or both of your aligners, make sure to keep your previous set on hand. By reinserting your previous trays, you can keep your teeth from reverting to their original position and further delaying your treatment. But once you do realize you don’t have your trays, make sure to call our office immediately. We’ll determine whether you can move ahead to the next set in the series or if you need to have replacement trays created.

How often will I be expected to see the dentist while wearing Invisalign?

It is not unusual for patients wearing Invisalign to see Dr. Podray-Donovan every 4-6 weeks; however, this can vary depending on the individual and severity of the case. Unlike traditional braces that require follow-up visits that include tightening or replacing the wire, Invisalign visits are designed to allow your orthodontist to simply review your progress and ensure there are no current or potential problems. This is one of the great benefits of wearing clear aligners!

How should I clean my aligners?

It is possible to purchase the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals to keep your aligners clean, but if you want to spend less, all you need is a soft-bristled toothbrush, clear soap, and lukewarm water. Hot water can warp the plastic and damage your aligners, so always make sure you are mindful of the temperature of the water before cleaning your trays. Also, when you are not wearing your aligners, make sure to keep them in a protective case to avoid potential damage.

Is a retainer necessary?

Yes, you will need to wear a retainer once you are finished with Invisalign treatment. These oral appliances are designed to keep your teeth in their new location and prevent them from shifting back into their original position. It takes time for your teeth to settle into their new “home,” which is why a retainer is a crucial part of your treatment. In the beginning, you will likely need to wear it all the time. Once your orthodontist believes your teeth are more firmly set, you may be able to switch to only wearing it at night while you sleep.

Will my dental insurance cover the cost of treatment?

Your dental insurance plan will likely cover a portion of the cost of your orthodontic treatment. However, each policy is different, so you’ll need to check with your insurer to find out if any stipulations will result in higher out-of-pocket expenses. At Pop Braces, we are in-network with many dental plans but are always happy to file claims for individuals with out-of-network policies, too. If you are uninsured or need help paying the remaining balance on your bill, we do offer in-house financing and accept flexible financing plans through CareCredit.
